High Desert Museum

The girls and I went to the High Desert Museum on Saturday and had so much fun. They got to play, run, climb, dig, and see many animals. The highlight for Tess was the giant cookie I bought her at the cafe and Lexi's was probably a tie between the bald eagles and the fox. One of the bald eagles spread it's wings out completely and flew (three feet from where it was standing, it was in a netted area). Lexi's eyes got so wide and she so "wow". It was so neat to see them excited about the animals and getting out of the house. It has been so cold here we all feel like we have been cooped up all winter.

The girls played outside in the "crawl, climb, dig" area and had a blast getting dirty. Tess kept telling me how dirty she was and giggling. I guess I don't allow them to get dirty enough? isn't it gorgeous out? We were close to Sunriver, OR. I love the fresh and clean Forrest air.

They spent a lot of time looking at the fish inside. There was one fish that was longer than Tess! I could not get a good picture because he was in a tank you could only look down into. Lexi learned how to do the fish face where you suck in your cheeks to make a pucker up face. She was making the face at all the fish she saw. I am proud to say, they did not knock on any glass either! The Otter was sleeping, bummer, and they were tempted to "wake him up from his nap" as Tess said it. Hopefully next time we go we can see the Otter out playing.

The "fox incident" was kinda funny and kinda scary! Alexa wanted to see the fox (below) so badly and as you can see she was having a hard time. (above picture) She decided to scoot her way in between the viewing area and the chain link fence separating the fox and her. Does that make sense? There is still a chain link fence between Lexi and the fox. Well, the fox saw Lexi so close and decided to come out, fast! He started running toward her and stopped 2 feet from her. My heart was racing and Lexi did not seem fazed by it. She was pointing excitedly at him saying "kitty" and I think she would have tried to pet him if I weren't right by her side. Needless to say when he started running toward her I darted toward her as well. The fox and Lexi must have stood looking at each other for 5 minutes before we left. The crowd was upset when we walked away because he went back into his den. Lexi made a friend I guess! I did not think to take pictures, sorry. The only thing I was thinking was don't stick your fingers through the fence Lexi! She has a love for animals especially kitties!

This is a picture of the Fox when we first showed up in his den.

The other "kitty" we saw that day was a bobcat. I have a hard enough time trying to get two kids to look at me when taking a picture. Trying to get the bobcat to look too made this picture especially hard. He could have been one of my kids because I swear the second I took out the camera, he would not look at us. I put the camera away and he looked right at me! I gave up real soon trying to get pictures of my girls together that day!

Tess and Lexi played in a T.P. outside the museum. Tess said she wanted one in her backyard. Can you see it now...neighbors would hate me! Lexi had fun in the T.P. for a few minutes and spent the rest of the time standing by the door (picture below) saying "bye bye". I think she was cold and ready to go home! We ended the day at that and can not wait to go back...when it is a little warmer! Maybe the fox will remember Lexi?!?!

This looks like so so much fun! What an amazing place! And, I'm glad your kids had fun getting dirty. We had an incident with a gorilla coming right up to the window when Austin wasn't 2 yet. That was really scary too! I don't blame you for staying close! Love ya!
